Love song for Naomi

Naomi takes my hand

As we walk to Subiaco

There are tables on the sidewalk

There are menus in the gutter

As she eats her sweet baklava

As she drinks her sweet black coffee

She tells me of her soldiers

In her room down there in Haifa

How they left her alone and lonely

And doused the impish sparkle from her eyes

As my soldiers at the border

Take my heart to Thessaloniki

There is laughter in their dark eyes

There is loving in their laughter

They leave me alone not lonely

They leave an impish sparkle in my eyes

Naomi take my hand

We’ll go again to Haifa

There'll  be tables on the sidewalk

There’ll be memories in the gutter

We’ll eat  sweet crisp baklava there

We’ll drink thick black coffee there

And in a different room down there

We forgive our soldiers through our window there

And in an other room down there

We’ll watch return the sparkle in her eyes
